What to wear, what to wear.
Detroit Moms Blog Photoshoot Fashion
In December of 2016, I saw a post on Detroit Moms Blog about an “open casting call’ for new contributors. I thinking, “ahh man, that would be cool!” As I kept scrolling, I made a mental note, that I should apply. A week or so later, that posted showed up again! The deadline was that day, or maybe the next. I decided to risk it, if they said no, they said no. A few weeks later, I shockingly recieved an email that they picked me! (I still think they may have mistaken me for someone else.) Fast forward a year and a half- I am still part of this awesome group, along with this lil ole blog that you are reading now.
Recently, for Detroit Moms Blog, we had a photoshoot to update our old headshots and to profile the newest contributors to join us. Now, I hate having my picture taken, and was not really looking forward to this. We are given a color scheme to work with, which I was excited about upon initially seeing- bright and beautiful colors, especially the blue and greens that I love! The only sticking point was that you could not have any prints or patterns. EKK! Working as a stylist at Evereve, I thought this would be super easy to find an outfit for. But, mid-summer we starting getting in more “fall pieces” not matching the color scheme…and of course the patterns! A lot of pieces I owe and that we had in the shop matched the color scheme but had patterns with excluded them.
As a last resort to find a quality, well made piece that would photograph well, I went back to my old friend Stitch Fix. I use to order fixes monthly, but haven’t been getting since working at Evereve. I signed up for the style pass for $49, that had been offered to me before so I figured I didn’t have much to lose! I scheduled it to arrive a week before the photoshoot, just in case I couldn’t find what I needed.
My style note explained the photoshoot, I created a new Pinterest page with pieces I loved, and included a picture of color scheme on my page. My stylist was Jaime, who left me a very detailed noted with styling information and she referenced the photoshoot. It was the most personalized note I have ever received! (My fix was in styling for a long time…so I know she really spent time on it!)
Let’s check out what pieces I received!
Z-Supply Coopie Knit Pocket Tee
I love this brand! Z-Supply makes the comfiest tanks and tees. I had a top just liked this pinned. This is not a different fabric than their regular cotton tees, definitely has a dressier feel to it. I ended up not wearing this for the photoshoot, but keeping for work, this is perfect for dressing up or down depending on how you style it. I wore this the other day, layered with a kimono, a Birkenstock style shoe and distressed denim. It looked super cute!
Papermoon Dalena Scallop Detail Blouse
I loved this top, and when I peeked I thought this would be the winner! When I looked this top up on Pinterest I found the sleeveless version with an open back. I had requested sleeves, since I am not feeling super confident about my arms. (Making progress with LIIFT4 though!) The royal blue color is exactly what I was looking for. In the end, I ended up keeping this!
Prosperity Lena Released Hem Super Skinny Jean
In my note, I mentioned that I would like pieces I could wear with a dark denim or white jeans. My stylist sent the Prosperity Super Skinny Jean. These are a dark wash with no distressing, only the raw hem which you can roll up if you don’t like it. Which was perfect. At first touch, they are beyond soft. They have a comfy yoga pant feel to them. When I got this fix, I was getting ready for work, and all my jeans were in the wash- I tried these on and just kept them on. So comfortable for all day wear.
Skies Are Blue Reginald Crochet Detail Top
At first look, I was a bit annoyed about at this top. I have a note in my profile that not to send Skies Are Blue. I have NEVER had luck with this brand, it is typically too tight on my chest. BUT when I took this out of the box, my mind completely changed, and I started hoping it would fit. I slipped it on and it fit PERFECTLY. The color is vibrant and the detail on it made it just a bit different. (And it was okay’d for the photoshoot!)
Towne & Reese Oria Stone Drop Earring
I normally would not request jewelry but I did for this fix. I was hoping for a great statement necklace or earrings to pop in the pictures. My stylist note said to pair these with the Skies Are Blue or Papermoon top. The best part about these earning is that they are lightweight! I also the love the color of the stone.
So in the end I kept all five pieces. With the kept five discount and the $49 credit for the styling pass- I got these for all under $140! Which is amazing. The best part, is these are all pieces that I will wear again.
*If you are curious about Stitch Fix, use my referral link! We will both get a $25 credit when you schedule a fix. Click here to complete your style profile.
On the day of the actual photoshoot I went with the denim, Skies Are Blue top, earrings and a simple Giving Keys necklace. I should mention that it was a ridiculously hot and windy. My makeup MELTED off.
What do you think? Here are a couple of my favorites from the day.
Emma, of Emma Burcusel Photography, did an amazing job with our photos!
